Tip: Getting a "not connected to the internet" warning? That's normal!
When following the instructions to connect your otoscope to your smartphone, you may get a warning saying that the otoscope network is not connected to the internet. That's normal - you can ignore this warning and continue connecting to the otoscope. Once you're done with the otoscope, you can turn it off and your phone will switch back to its normal internet connection.
How can I get a good video of my child's ear drum?
Tip 1: Pull your child’s ear out and back
Your child's ear canal, just like yours, isn't straight! To ensure you have a nice straight shot to your child's eardrum, gently pull the outer ear out and back, away from their head. This will make seeing the eardrum with the earscope a bit easier.
Tip 2: Use the black tip and angle towards their face
The black tip on the earscope ensures the otoscope doesn't go too deep. Aim the scope towards their face and move the angle up and down and left to right until you see the eardrum. You may also need to advance further into the ear canal to get a good view. Your child might not enjoy it much (nobody likes their ears probed).
You can also try turning the otoscope between your thumb and index finger to help grab different angles and help focus the light.
Tip 3: If you have a little kid, have them sit on your lap facing away from you.
When your child is little, It might help to have them sit on your lap with their back facing you while you insert the otoscope in their ear - once the otoscope is in, it should also be angled towards the front of your child's face.
If another person can help you hold your little one while you check their ears, this can be immensely helpful, too!
What can I do if my earscope is blurry?
Try charging the otoscope with the provided charging cord for 20 minutes. Sometimes, if the battery on the otoscope is low, the resulting image can be blurry as well.
If your earscope is fully charged and still looks blurry, it's most likely because a small amount of wax got on the earscope's lens.
Cleaning your earscope is easy! All you need are some Q-tips and rubbing alcohol:
- Grab your q-tip and dip one end into the rubbing alcohol.
- Gently scrub the earscope lens for 15 seconds using the rubbing alcohol side of your q-tip.
- Wait 15 seconds to let the alcohol start to dry. Afterwards, use the clean end of the q-tip to wipe the lens.
