What is a doctor's note?

Get Started
A doctor's note, or medical excuse note, helps clarify children's health needs outside the home.
They come in handy when a child takes a break from activities outside the home like school, daycare, or sports. They are also necessary for specific events, activities, or trips away from home.
Doctor's notes offer evidence of a child's health and safety status, along with valuable advice on adapting policies or procedures to meet a child's specific requirements.

Blueberry pediatricians write doctor's notes for a variety of illnesses and infections they treat including:
Sinus infections
Flu
Rashes
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
Nausea
Abdominal pain
Diarrhea

Getting a doctor's note with Blueberry Pediatrics is quick and easy!

1. Join Blueberry Pediatrics

Join Blueberry for a low monthly or annual fee. An entire year of Blueberry membership costs less than the typical copay of a single urgent care visit, and one membership covers all children in your household - with no per visit fees or copays! Sign-up takes just minutes.

2. Meet with a pediatrician

Request a video visit through Blueberry's HIPAA-compliant platform. Your pediatrician will discuss your child's health history and symptoms, and provide a diagnosis and treatment guidance (including prescription medication if necessary).

Every Blueberry family receives a three-piece at-home medical kit to better assess and manage health issues from the comfort of their home.

3. Access doctor's notes in the app

Following your virtual visit, if you need a doctor’s note for school or other activities, we’ve got you covered with a doctor's note on our letterhead with the doctor's signature, easily accessible in the Blueberry Pediatrics app.

Can I get a doctor's note from Blueberry Pediatrics?

Yes, Blueberry pediatricians can write a doctor's note for your child, for conditions they diagnose through a video visit.

Is there a doctor's note template in the Blueberry app?

No, Blueberry does not offer doctor note templates in its app. Instead, you will receive a custom doctor's note written by our licensed pediatricians, specific to your child's needs.

When is a doctor's note required for my child?

Doctor's notes are typically required when a child needs to be absent from school or other activities due to certain medical conditions (such as a contagious illness) or injury.

Do I need any tools at home for a virtual visit?

When you join Blueberry Pediatrics, your family receives a three-piece medical kit, which includes an otoscope, pulse oximeter, and oral thermometer. These tools allow our pediatricians to diagnose a wider range of issues effectively.

Do I need a doctor's appointment to get a doctor's note?

It depends! With services like Blueberry Pediatrics, you can chat with a pediatrician through a video visit and receive a doctor's note right from home

There are free doctor note templates online - can I use that?

Doctor's notes are legal documents and protect the health and well-being of your child and the children around them. It is not recommended that you create fake doctor's notes for your child. Instead, a healthcare provider should assess and diagnose your child and then provide a doctor's note as appropriate.

Do virtual visits offer the same quality care as in-person visits?

Yes, virtual visits offer the same - if not better - quality of care as in-person visits. Regardless of the online doctor service you choose for your family, your child's doctor will be board-certified.

Does my insurance cover online doctor visits?

At Blueberry Pediatrics, we don't accept insurance. Instead, you pay one low monthly or annual fee (plus a one-time home medical kit fee). There are no deductibles, copays, per-child, or per-visit fees, no matter how much you use our services or how many kids you have.

Do all online doctors treat children?

While some online practices may treat children, the doctor treating your child may not specialize in pediatrics. Blueberry Pediatrics' entire medical team is made up of board-certified pediatricians with years of experience providing compassionate care to children aged 0-21.
